Why a bottom-drain kettle

The DrainPro drain isn't a feature — it's the architecture.

Most "premium" brew kettles use a side port and ask you to tilt the kettle to finish a transfer. The DrainPro doesn't — the 1.5" tri-clamp drain is welded into the bottom plate, the floor slopes to it, and the kettle empties completely with the vessel sitting level on its stand. No tilting, no trapped trub, no dead zones, no threaded leak points.

True welded 1.5" tri-clamp bottom drain

Not a side port. Not a threaded fitting. A fully welded TC ferrule pressed into the bottom plate of the kettle, so the floor slopes to a single sanitary drain that you clamp a butterfly valve to. Complete emptying with no tilting; CIP cycles run start-to-finish through the same port.

Every port — element, recirculation, sight glass, sample, lid, drain — is welded 1.5" tri-clamp. No NPT threads, no Teflon tape, no bacteria traps. Standard sanitary tri-clamp consumables; valve service with a 9/16" wrench.

1.5" TC recirculation port standard on every vessel; element port on the HLT and boil kettle. ULWD elements drop in; pumps clamp on. No drilled holes, no aftermarket adapters — the kettle ships ready for closed-loop electric process control.

Welded tri-clamp port in the lid for a spray ball or steam condenser. Clean caustic + acid + rinse without removing the lid; condense boil steam if you're brewing indoors. The kettle is designed to be cleaned, not just brewed in.

Most "premium" homebrew kettles use a side-mounted ball valve with an internal pickup tube. The DrainPro replaces that whole apparatus with a single welded drain in the bottom of the vessel. Here's what changes.

Does a bottom drain leak?+

No. The 1.5" tri-clamp ferrule is fully welded into the bottom plate of the kettle — there are no threaded leak points. You clamp a sanitary butterfly valve to the ferrule with a TC clamp + gasket; that's the only seal in the drain path, and replacement gaskets are off-the-shelf if you ever need them.

Can I use a tri-clamp electric element?+

Yes — Boil Kettles and HLTs both ship with a 1.5" TC element port on the side of the vessel, sized for any standard ULWD tri-clamp element. Drop the element in, clamp it down, plug the controller in. No drilling, no threaded adapters, no aftermarket parts.

Which vessels should I buy first?+

Most brewers start with a Mash Tun + Boil Kettle pair — that's the minimum for a recirculating BIAB or eBIAB setup. Add the HLT when you're ready to run a full 3-vessel HERMS / RIMS with a dedicated strike-water vessel. All three share the same fittings; you can stage the purchase over months without ending up with mismatched hardware.

How does the DrainPro compare to Spike or Ss BrewTech?+

Most Spike and Ss BrewTech kettles use a side-drain ball valve with an internal pickup tube — that's the entire argument for the DrainPro. Three specifics worth knowing:

(1) Bottom-drain comparison. Spike does sell a bottom-drain kettle. Theirs uses a tri-clamped ferrule (removable, with a gasket seam) rather than a fully welded one — and the equivalent size lists at roughly 35% more than the DrainPro. Same idea, more money, one more gasket to manage.

(2) CIP-capable lid. The DrainPro ships with a welded tri-clamp port in the lid for a spray ball or steam condenser. Neither Spike nor Ss BrewTech includes one as standard — you'd add an aftermarket weld-in port or skip closed-loop CIP entirely.

(3) Build. 304 stainless, mirror polished inside and out, thickest walls in the industry (1.2 mm on 10G/15G/20G, 1.5 mm on 30G/50G). Heavy enough that the kettle doesn't oil-can on a full element duty cycle.

Is CIP cleaning possible?+

Absolutely. The lid ships with a welded tri-clamp port for a spray ball; the bottom drain returns through the same TC plumbing as your transfer. A standard caustic + acid + rinse cycle runs in 60–90 minutes without ever opening the vessel. You'd need to add a CIP pump and a spray-ball assembly — we sell both as accessories.

Are these compatible with my existing pump and controller?+

If your pump and controller use tri-clamp fittings or standard 1.5" TC adapters, yes. If your existing brewhouse runs on threaded NPT, you'll want a small kit of TC-to-NPT adapters — we can include them at checkout, or ship them on their own. When does a grain door come standard?+

The 15G, 20G, 30G, and 50G Mash Tuns ship with a hinged grain access door welded into the side of the vessel. The 10G Mash Tun ships without a grain door — spent grain is removed via the false bottom at that scale.

What's the warranty?+

2 years full warranty on the vessel, every weld, and every tri-clamp port. Lifetime parts support — gaskets, clamps, butterfly valves, sight glasses are all standard sanitary tri-clamp consumables. Serviced, not replaced.
