All-in-one systems · comparison

BrewZilla vs Unibräu

Both are electric all-in-one systems: you mash in a basket, lift it and boil in the same kettle. The BrewZilla costs much less, builds its pump into the base, includes an immersion chiller and has an app-connected controller. The Unibräu is tri-clamp stainless throughout with a published wall thickness, runs a 5,500 W element at every 240V size, ships with an external magnetic-drive pump, and carries a two-year warranty from the company that builds it.

Price

The BrewZilla is the cheaper system at every size, and it includes a chiller at 35 and 65 litres. If the lowest price for a working all-in-one is the goal, it is hard to beat. The Unibräu costs more because of how it is built and backed: tri-clamp fittings everywhere, published wall thickness, a full 5,500 W element at 240V, an external pump you can service or replace with standard parts, and a two-year warranty.

Power

On 120V, the two are close: 1,650 W for the Unibräu 10G and 1,500 W for the BrewZilla 35 L, which needs a 20 A circuit. The Unibräu can add a second 1,650 W element on another 15 A circuit for 3,300 W without moving to 240V.

On 240V, the Unibräu puts 5,500 W into every size. The BrewZilla uses 2,400 W in the 35 L and 3,500 W in the 65 L, so the Unibräu 20G heats a 10–12 gallon batch with about 57% more power. At the largest size it flips: the BrewZilla 100 L has 6,600 W against the Unibräu 30G’s 5,500 W.

Fittings and the pump

Every port on a Unibräu is a 1.5" tri-clamp: the valve, the pump and the element. Any standard tri-clamp part fits, it all comes apart by hand for cleaning, and the pump sits outside the kettle where you can reach it.

The BrewZilla uses a ½" BSP threaded valve with a barb, 13 mm barbs on the pump and a camlock recirculation arm. Its pump is built into the base. KegLand’s manual includes a procedure for clearing a blocked pump, and recommends against running it dry; a Canadian retailer recommends rice hulls to keep it flowing.

The controller

The BrewZilla’s RAPT controller has more features: six step-mash stages, a delayed start and control from an app. Its temperature probe sits at the bottom of the kettle near the elements.

Ours are simpler on purpose. The SV2 (240V) is a 30 A wall-mount panel we hand-build in Vancouver, with mash and boil modes and boil-over protection. The SV1 (120V) is a PID controller with auto-tune and alarms. Both are replaceable as a single part, stocked in Vancouver.

Which should you buy?

Choose the BrewZilla if price matters most, you want app control and step mashing out of the box, and you are happy with a built-in pump and threaded fittings.

Choose the Unibräu if you want tri-clamp stainless throughout, a known wall thickness, 5,500 W at 240V for 10 and 20 gallon batches, a pump and controller you can service with standard parts, and a two-year warranty from the people who build it.

FAQ

Which Unibräu matches a BrewZilla 35 L?

The Unibräu 10G: both make about 5 to 6 gallons into the fermenter. The 20G matches the 65 L (10 to 12 gallons) and the 30G is closest to the 100 L.

Does the Unibräu come with a chiller?

No. The pump is included; the chiller is an add-on, an all-stainless counterflow with tri-clamp ends. If you already own an immersion chiller, it works in the Unibräu kettle.

Will BrewZilla accessories fit a Unibräu?

Accessories made for the BrewZilla’s barbs, camlocks and malt pipe won’t. Standard 1.5" tri-clamp parts fit any Unibräu port.
