How the production Unitank works

Same six steps. Production scale.

The 3 / 5 BBL Unitank follows the same six-step workflow as the smaller vessels — fill, ferment, pressure, crash, harvest, transfer. What changes is the manway, the port sizes, the CIP integration, and how much beer the brite tank sees on the way out.

Step 1

Land via 3" inlet

Knock-out from your brewhouse through the 3" tri-clamp inlet. Pitch slurry via the side manway. Seal, vent, attach blow-off arm to the top tri-clamp port.

Step 2

Glycol jacket holds set point

Fully jacketed body + base + exterior insulation — set point stable across the full 14-day lager profile even when the cellar fluctuates. Solenoid-driven loop feeds the jacket on demand.

Step 3

Spund the full vessel

2" spunding valve, commercial 0–60 psi gauge. Naturally carbonate 3 or 5 BBL on the tail end of fermentation — no force-carb sit time, no separate brite for primary carb.

Step 4

Insulated crash

Drop to 32–34°F. Insulated build means the jacket pulls down the beer, not the cellar. ~25% reduction in glycol chiller duty cycle vs. uninsulated builds.

Step 5

Sample port + 2" butterfly

Sample side port lets the cellarman take a gravity reading without breaching the manway. 2" butterfly at the apex handles trub dumps and yeast brink capture.

Step 6

Brite transfer + CIP cycle

Push through the 3" racking arm to brite or directly to keg. After transfer, run the commercial CIP layout — spray ball through the top port, caustic + acid + rinse through the same plumbing.

What's included

Production-scale architecture. The 3 / 5 BBL ships with the commercial port layout, fully jacketed body + base, exterior insulation, and welded stand with forklift channels.

Unitank 3 / 5 BBL — vessel + commercial hardware
  • ✓
Production conical Unitank vessel 304 stainless · sanitary polish · fully jacketed body + base · exterior insulated. 60° conical bottom for clean trub dumps and yeast harvest.
  • ✓
Side 12" pressure manway Production-style side manway with PRV port and pressure gauge mount. Spund through the side; vent through the top.
  • ✓
3" racking arm + sight glass Rotates to pull beer above the yeast cake. Sight glass confirms clarity before pressure transfer to brite tank.
  • ✓
2" butterfly trub-dump + sample port Apex-mounted butterfly handles production-rate trub dumps. Adjacent sample port for cellarman gravity reads without breaching the manway.
  • ✓
Commercial CIP layout Spray-ball mount through the top tri-clamp port, return through the 3" racking arm. Plumbs into the same loop you use for transfer.
  • ✓
Glycol loop interface (1.5" tri-clamp) Standard 1.5" tri-clamp jacket ports, same as every Unitank. Adapts to NPT glycol lines with tri-clamp to NPT adapters. Pairs with BEF-100, BEF-150, or BFT-67 reservoir setups.
  • ✓
Commercial tri-clamp hardware kit 1.5", 2", and 3" clamps, gaskets, and caps for every connection. No proprietary fittings.
  • ✓
Welded stand + forklift channels Adjustable feet for level placement on a real cellar floor. Forklift channels in the stand for moves; lugs at the top for crane lifts.

Common questions

About the 3 / 5 BBL.

When will the 3 / 5 BBL Unitanks be available?+

Join the waitlist and we contact you as build slots open. Waitlist members get priority and the spec sheet first.

Am I committing to anything by joining the waitlist?+

No commitment. Joining the waitlist gives you build-slot priority and first word on pricing. You can decline when the order window opens with no obligation. We use the waitlist to size production runs — accurate signal matters more than locked deposits.

Why no published price yet?+

We don't publish a price yet. Waitlist members get pricing first.

How is this different from the 1 BBL?+

Same architecture, scaled. The 3 / 5 BBL has a side 12" pressure manway (vs. 12" tri-clamp on the 1 BBL), 3" racking + 2" trub dump (vs. smaller on 1 BBL), a commercial CIP layout, and a welded stand with forklift channels. The 1 BBL is hand-rolled; the 3 / 5 BBL needs a rigger to install.

Which glycol chiller do I pair with this?+

For one 3 BBL under primary, a BEF-04 or -05. For two or more 3 BBL fermenters or a single 5 BBL, step up to BEF-075. For a production hall running 3+ fermenters in parallel, a BEF-100 with a BFT-67 reservoir is the standard pairing. We'll size for you at the build-slot confirmation.

What's the install process?+

Freight delivery to your loading dock. You'll need a rigger or forklift for placement — the vessel has forklift channels in the stand and lifting lugs at the top. Once placed, plumbing is standard: 1.5" tri-clamp glycol supply/return, 3" tri-clamp wort inlet, 110V or 220V for any electric components. We do a video commissioning walkthrough at first brew.
