MCED Production Glycol Chiller

Commercial-duty 220V plug-in chillers for 5–10 BBL fermentation halls. 8,179–12,900 BTU/hr, multi-pump deck, Chiller Watch optional, BFT-67 reservoir-ready.

Est. 2014
✓
220V single-phase plug-in (NEMA 6-20P) — no electrician required if your cellar has 220V available. Commercial compressor, integrated reservoir + pump deck, optional Chiller Watch. LTL palletized shipping. In stock at MCED Montreal warehouse — drop-ships in a few days. Manufactured in Canada by MCED Systems.

Commercial-duty cooling for a 5 to 10 BBL fermentation hall. The BEF-100 delivers 8,179 BTU/hr and the BEF-150 12,900 BTU/hr, each from a 17-gallon insulated bath with a 50 GPH circulation pump (the bath takes up to 4). Both plug into 220V single-phase, so no hardwired install if your cellar already has the outlet.

Standard on/off thermostat, with Chiller Watch monitoring available as an option. Expand to a BFT-67 reservoir when the hall grows. Standard 3/8 inch barb connections. R513 refrigerant on the BEF-100, R448 on the BEF-150. Manufactured in Canada by MCED Systems, ships palletized from their Montreal warehouse within a few days. One-year warranty, serviced direct through MCED.

Step 2 — Pump configuration

One pump included. Need more?

The chiller includes one circulation pump. For fermenters at different temperatures, set how many you have and we add a pump for each one after the first. Up to 4 fit on the chiller's bath; from 5, the BFT-67 reservoir is added. You can also add the BFT-67 now for room to grow.

MCED BFT-67 Glycol Buffer Tank
+ BFT-67 reservoirRoom to grow
  • 67 gal insulated reservoir, stainless steel exterior
  • Holds up to 10 pumps; the chiller sits on top
  • Add it now to grow past 4 fermenters later without changing chillers
  • Needed once you have 5 or more fermenters
+ $3,315

Optional. Tap to add it now.

Step 3 — Temp control (optional)

Use your own controls, or add our kits.

Pumps and temp control kits are separate. Each kit controls one fermenter: add one for each tank you want our controller on, or none if you run your own. Glycol fluid isn't included; use food-safe propylene glycol only (never ethylene), mixed to about 30% of total system volume.

Sizing & compatibility

What the Production Series will cool.

Both Production models share the 220V plug-in form factor and the 17 gal bath. Step up to the BFT-67 reservoir when you need more than 4 pumps, or to the Industrial Series (BEF-300/-500) for 20+ BBL production cellars.

Inside the cabinet

Refrigeration loop. Commercial-duty.

The Production Series is sized for breweries running multiple fermenters in parallel under commercial duty — bigger compressor, multi-pump deck, 220V power. Optional Chiller Watch for cloud monitoring if you don't already have brewery automation.

Step 1

01 · Compressor — 1 or 1.75 HP

1 HP on the BEF-100 (8,179 BTU/hr), 1.75 HP on the BEF-150 (12,900 BTU/hr). See Specs by model for refrigerant and circuit.

Step 2

02 · Evaporator — copper tube + 17 gal bath

Same 17 gal bath and footprint as the High Capacity Series. Refrigerant chills a copper coil in the bath. Upperdeck onto the BFT-67 (67 gal) for centralized cooling across a fermentation hall.

Step 3

03 · Pump deck — up to 4 pumps

50 GPH per pump, one included. Add a pump for each fermenter you want at its own temperature.

Step 4

04 · Chiller Watch — optional cloud monitoring

Optional add-on. Production buyers often already have brewery SCADA, BMS or control panels. Ask us if you want it added.

Common questions

About the Production Series.

BEF-100 or BEF-150?+

By hall size. BEF-100: 5 BBL hall, 4–6 1 BBL fermenters under typical brewery duty. BEF-150: 10 BBL hall, 6–10 fermenters, or smaller halls running back-to-back lager crashes. Both 220V plug-in; the difference is compressor size and BTU output.

Why is Chiller Watch optional here but standard on High Capacity?+

Production-tier buyers often already have brewery SCADA, BMS or a dedicated control panel reading every cellar variable, including chiller status. Building Chiller Watch into the base price would mean charging for a controller many buyers won't use. Ask us if you want it added.

Do I need an electrician for 220V?+

Not necessarily. The Production chillers ship with a NEMA 6-20P plug, a standard 220V single-phase plug. If your cellar already has a 220V outlet on the right circuit (20A for the BEF-100, 25A for the BEF-150), plug it in and go. If not, an electrician needs to run the circuit.

Do I need extra pumps?+

Add one if you want fermenters at different temperatures, for example one tank cold crashing while another ferments. Each pump runs its own loop. One pump is included; add a pump kit in Step 2 for each extra fermenter, up to 4 pumps on the 17 gal bath. Past 4, move to the BFT-67 reservoir (up to 10 pumps).

Can I add a BFT-67 reservoir later?+

Yes. Both Production models sit on top of the BFT-67 (67 gal bath, up to 10 pumps and 2 chiller decks). When you outgrow the 17 gal bath, the BFT-67 is the upgrade path, with no chiller replacement needed. See BFT-67 →

Why isn't glycol included?+

Pre-mixed propylene glycol is heavy and hazmat-classed — including it would substantially raise the freight cost. Any HVAC supplier carries food-safe propylene glycol at a lower per-gallon price than we could ship it for. Buy food-safe propylene glycol (never ethylene — that's automotive antifreeze and toxic). Mix to ~30% propylene of the total fluid volume — that's the 17 gal bath plus everything held in your fermenter jackets and the connecting lines.

Shipping & freight?+

7–14 days from order. Ships LTL palletized with a delivery appointment (commercial dock or curbside lift-gate).

What's the warranty?+

1-year warranty on the refrigeration loop. Warranty service is direct through MCED Systems — they manufacture the unit and service it. Production-tier installations get priority parts dispatch from MCED.
