3,481–6,180 BTU/hr · 17 gal water bath · Chiller Watch built in · R513a refrigerant · 120V plug · In stock at MCED Montreal warehouse — drop-ships in a few days. LTL palletized shipping. Manufactured in Canada by MCED Systems.

The chiller most pilot breweries pick. Three models on the same 17-gallon insulated bath: the BEF-04 at 3,481 BTU/hr, the BEF-05 at 4,440 BTU/hr and the BEF-075 at 6,180 BTU/hr. All run on a 120V plug and all include Chiller Watch, MCED's built-in monitoring, so you can check tank temperatures from your phone. Sized for a 1 BBL Unitank under lager duty, or a cellar of up to four homebrew fermenters at separate temperatures.

Multi-pump: up to four fermenters at their own temperatures, one pump each, and reservoir-ready if you later add a BFT-67. Standard 3/8 inch barb connections; our Temperature Control Kit converts them to tri-clamp. Low-GWP R513a refrigerant. Manufactured in Canada by MCED Systems and ships from their Montreal warehouse within a few days, palletized. One-year warranty, serviced direct through MCED.

Step 2 — Pump configuration

One pump included. Need more?

The chiller includes one circulation pump. For fermenters at different temperatures, set how many you have and we add a pump for each one after the first. Up to 4 fit on the chiller's bath; from 5, the BFT-67 reservoir is added. You can also add the BFT-67 now for room to grow.

MCED BFT-67 Glycol Buffer Tank
+ BFT-67 reservoirRoom to grow
  • 67 gal insulated reservoir, stainless steel exterior
  • Holds up to 10 pumps; the chiller sits on top
  • Add it now to grow past 4 fermenters later without changing chillers
  • Needed once you have 5 or more fermenters
+ $3,319

Optional. Tap to add it now.

Step 3 — Temp control (optional)

Use your own controls, or add our kits.

Pumps and temp control kits are separate. Each kit controls one fermenter: add one for each tank you want our controller on, or none if you run your own. Glycol fluid isn't included; use food-safe propylene glycol only (never ethylene), mixed to about 30% of total system volume.

Sizing & compatibility

What the High Capacity Series will cool.

Every model in the series shares the 17 gal water bath cabinet, Chiller Watch and a 120V plug. The difference is BTU output and cooling distance. Pick by load and distance, not by model number.

Unitank

Jacketed conical

Up to 4 fermenters

One pump per fermenter keeps each tank at its own temperature, and the 17 gal bath takes up to 4 pumps. Step up the model for lagers, cold crashes and longer lines: 150 ft on the BEF-04, up to 350 ft on the BEF-075. For an exact pick, use the sizing calculator.

Other fermenters

Jacket or coil

Up to 4 fermenters

Works with any glycol-jacketed or coil-cooled fermenter. Each tank needs its own controller and solenoid valve to call for glycol.

Centralized cooling

+ BFT-67 reservoir

Up to 10 fermenters

Every High Capacity model sits on top of the BFT-67 reservoir (67 gal bath, up to 10 pumps, 2 chiller decks). Step up to it when you outgrow the 17 gal bath.

What's included

In the crate.

Same cabinet across the series. Every model shares the 17 gal water bath, Chiller Watch and a 120V NEMA 5-15P plug. What changes is compressor size, BTU output, cooling distance and circuit amperage.

*Glycol fluid not included. Use food-safe propylene glycol only (never ethylene). Mix to ~30% propylene of total fluid volume (17 gal bath + jacket/coil + lines). For a 2-Unitank setup on a BEF-05, plan on ~6 gallons of propylene.

Inside the cabinet

Refrigeration loop. Built for sustained pull-down.

The High Capacity Series is sized for brewers who cool several fermenters at once: a 17 gal bath for thermal mass, up to 4 circulation pumps, and Chiller Watch digital control.

Step 1

01 · Compressor — 1/2 to 3/4 HP

Compressor size steps up with each model. See Specs by model below for each one's BTU rating, refrigerant and circuit.

Step 2

02 · Evaporator — copper tube + 17 gal bath

Refrigerant chills the inside of a copper coil submerged in the 17 gal glycol reservoir. Big thermal mass means short compressor cycles and stable supply temp under variable demand.

Step 3

03 · Pump deck — up to 4 pumps

One 50 GPH pump is included. Add a pump for each fermenter you want at its own temperature, up to 4 on the 17 gal bath.

Step 4

04 · Chiller Watch — digital + remote-monitorable

Set point + differential + low-pressure cutout + alarm relay. Cloud-connected — see your reservoir temp + alarm status from anywhere. Standard, not a paid add-on.

Common questions

About the High Capacity Series.

BEF-04, BEF-05 or BEF-075?+

Pick by BTU load and cooling distance. BEF-04: 3,481 BTU/hr and up to 150 ft of line, the entry point to the series. BEF-05: 4,440 BTU/hr and up to 280 ft, good for ales and the odd lager. BEF-075: 6,180 BTU/hr and up to 350 ft, for regular lagers and cold crashes. All three take up to 4 pumps, one per fermenter. Not sure? Use the sizing calculator.

What's Chiller Watch?+

MCED's built-in digital controller: set point, differential, low-pressure cutout, alarm relay, and cloud-connected remote monitoring. Standard on every High Capacity model, not a paid add-on. Chiller Watch reads the bath temperature; each fermenter still needs its own controller and solenoid (both in the Unitank temp control kit) to read beer temperature and call for glycol.

Do I need extra pumps?+

Yes if you want fermenters at different temperatures, for example one Unitank cold crashing while another ferments. Each pump runs its own loop. One pump is included; add a pump kit in Step 2 for each extra fermenter, up to 4 pumps on the 17 gal bath. If your tanks all sit at the same temperature, one pump can feed several of them.

Can I add a BFT-67 reservoir later?+

Yes. Every High Capacity model sits on top of the BFT-67 (67 gal bath, up to 10 pumps and 2 chiller decks). When you outgrow the 17 gal bath, usually past 4 fermenters or when you run back-to-back lager crashes, the BFT-67 is the upgrade path. See BFT-67 →

Why isn't glycol included?+

Pre-mixed propylene glycol is heavy and hazmat-classed — including it would roughly double the LTL freight cost. Any HVAC supplier carries food-safe propylene glycol at a lower per-gallon price than we could ship it for. Buy food-safe propylene glycol (never ethylene — that's automotive antifreeze and toxic). Mix to ~30% propylene of the total fluid volume — that's the 17 gal bath plus everything held in your fermenter jacket / coil and the connecting lines. For a 2-Unitank setup on a BEF-05, plan on roughly 6 gallons of propylene.

Can I use this with a fermenter that isn't yours?+

Yes. A glycol chiller is a cold reservoir with a pump, so any glycol-jacketed or coil-cooled fermenter works. Skip our temp control kit (it fits our fermenter ports) and bring your own controller, solenoid and plumbing.

Shipping & freight?+

7–14 days from order. Ships LTL palletized with a delivery appointment (residential lift-gate available at checkout). Th

What's the warranty?+

1-year warranty on the refrigeration loop (compressor, evaporator, condenser, pump). Warranty service is direct through MCED Systems — they manufacture the unit and service it. Our role is fulfillment and tech support; for actual refrigeration repairs you'll talk to MCED.
