Step 1 — Configuration

Vessel only, or vessel + Brew-Ready Kit?

Vessel only is the bare welded boil kettle — for brewers replacing a leaking vessel who already own the plumbing. Brew-Ready Kit adds the element and hardware to make it brew-ready out of the box.

How the Boil Kettle works

Six steps. Boil to brite · zero left-behind wort.

A complete cold-side workflow — wort lands hot from the mash tun, boils on a TC element, whirlpools to a tight trub cone, knocks out clean through the racking port above the bottom drain. Bottom drain handles full vessel cleanout after.

Step 1

Receive — wort lands hot

Sparge wort drains into the kettle through the welded TC bottom port from the mash tun above. No pumping required during transfer.

Step 2

Heat — ULWD element brings to boil

1.5" TC element port fits any standard tri-clamp ULWD element. Thickest walls in the industry mean stable thermal mass and no element scorch.

Step 3

Boil & hop — rolling boil through the lid

Hop additions through the top, vapor vented to a steam condenser via the CIP lid port if you're brewing indoors.

Step 4

Whirlpool — racking port + whirlpool port

Pump pulls wort from the racking port (just above the bottom drain) and returns through the whirlpool port, spinning the kettle contents to cone the trub. The racking port draws above the settled trub layer; the bottom drain stays closed during whirlpool.

Step 5

Knockout — racking port to fermenter

Pump pulls clean wort from the racking port through a counterflow chiller into the fermenter. The racking port sits above the settled trub cone, so knockout pulls bright wort without disturbing the cone.

Step 6

CIP — spray + drain

Spray ball through the lid pulses caustic, acid, and rinse. Hot break washes out the welded bottom drain on the same plumbing the wort just left through.

What's included

The vessel. Every port welded in.

Vessel only ships as the kettle alone — every port welded in, lid included, no element, valves, clamps or gaskets. Bring your own hardware, or pick the Brew-Ready Kit above for the matched element plus all plumbing hardware in one bundle.

DrainPro Boil Kettle — vessel only
  • TIG-welded boil vessel — 304 stainless Fully TIG-welded, thickest walls in the industry (1.2 mm on 10G/15G/20G, 1.5 mm on 30G/50G). Mirror polished inside and out. Sloped bottom carries every last drop to the drain port — no tilting, no dead wort.
  • 1.5" TC bottom drain port Welded at the low point of the sloped bottom and brought forward in line with the side ports, so all your plumbing runs in one straight line. No threads, no pickup tube, no leak points. Valve not included — it's in the Brew-Ready Kit.
  • 1.5" TC element port Welded TC ferrule sized for any standard tri-clamp ULWD element. Drop in, clamp down, plug in the controller. No drilling, no aftermarket adapters.
  • 1.5" TC racking port Wort pickup set above the trub line — feeds the pump for whirlpool and pulls bright wort at knockout without disturbing the cone. Dip tube in the Brew-Ready Kit.
  • 1.5" TC whirlpool / recirculation port Inlet angled to spin the kettle contents during whirlpool. Doubles as the recirc return on a HERMS hot side.
  • 1.5" TC temperature probe port Dedicated port for a thermowell or probe, so your controller reads the wort — not the wall.
  • CIP port in the lid — included Welded 1.5" TC port in the lid for a spray ball or steam condenser. Most brands sell the CIP lid port as an add-on; it's standard on every DrainPro kettle at no extra charge.
  • 5,500W ULWD element + 3× butterfly valves + dip tubes + caps + clamps In Brew-Ready Kit Not included with Vessel only — bring your own, or pick the Brew-Ready Kit above for the matched 5,500W element, 3× 1.5" TC butterfly valves, 2× press-in dip tubes (wort pickup + whirlpool), 2× TC blank caps, and 6× clamps + gaskets.
  • Etched internal volume markings Stamped right into the interior wall. Read in US gallons and litres.

*Brew-Ready Kit ships a 5,500W (240V) ULWD wavy element matched to all sizes. 50G vessel is dual-element capable; single element ships standard (our current HERMS controller is single-element). Pricing assumes vessel-only build; Brew-Ready Kit priced separately.

Common questions

About the DrainPro Boil Kettle.

Which size should I buy?+

10G for 5-gallon batches. 15G for 7–8 gallon batches. 20G for 10-gallon batches. 30G for 20-gallon batches or pilot capacity. 50G for ~1 BBL pilot operations — vessel is dual-element capable for future controller upgrades. All sizes run on 240V; the Brew-Ready Kit ships with a matched 5,500W ULWD element.

Is an element included?+

Not with Vessel only — the kettle ships with a welded 1.5" TC element port, ready for any standard tri-clamp ULWD element you bring. The Brew-Ready Kit bundles a matched 5,500W ULWD wavy element along with all the plumbing hardware (3× butterfly valves, 2× dip tubes, caps, clamps, gaskets). Most buyers pick the Brew-Ready Kit unless they already own valves and a TC element.

How does the whirlpool work?+

Pump draws clean wort from the racking port (just above the bottom drain) and returns through the whirlpool port on the side. The spinning return pulls the trub into a tight cone. The bottom drain stays closed during whirlpool — racking-port draw keeps the pickup above the settled trub layer for a clean knockout to the fermenter.

Does it boil hard enough on a single element?+

5,500W on a 240V circuit delivers a rolling boil on the 10G, 15G, 20G and 30G easily, and a working boil on the 50G with a longer ramp time. The 50G vessel is dual-element capable (two TC element ports), but our current HERMS controller is single-element — all builds ship with a single element for now.

Does it matter whether I run HERMS or RIMS?+

No — it works with both. HERMS and RIMS are two ways to heat the mash: HERMS recirculates wort through a coil heat exchanger sitting in the HLT; RIMS runs it through an inline heater outside the mash tun. Neither changes what the boil kettle does — both systems need one, and its job is the same: boil, whirlpool, knock out clean. It also works on its own as a standalone electric boil kettle or for BIAB.

What's the difference between Vessel only and Brew-Ready Kit?+

Vessel only is the bare welded boil kettle with every TC port welded in — for brewers who already own valves, dip tubes, and element. Brew-Ready Kit adds everything to fire the kettle: 5,500W ULWD wavy TC element, 3× 1.5" TC butterfly valves, 2× press-in dip tubes (wort pickup + whirlpool), 2× TC blank caps, and 6× clamps + gaskets.

What ships, and when?+

Ships from our Vancouver, BC workshop. Most orders out in 5–10 days, free continental US shipping. 10G, 15G and 20G ship via standard courier; 30G and 50G ship LTL freight (palletized, with tracking and a delivery appointment).

What's the warranty?+

2-year warranty on every weld and TC port, and the Brew-Ready Kit valves (when included). Element (Brew-Ready Kit): 2 years against defects. Not covered: dry-firing (running the element without liquid covering it), and heat or melt damage at the twist-lock plug from a loose or improper connection — a proper, fully seated connection has to be maintained. Gaskets, clamps and O-rings are consumables; replacements are in stock and cheap. Lifetime parts support on everything we build — serviced, not replaced.
